9 Nights 10 Days: Beijing/Shanghai
Our guide will be holding your name sign and waiting for you at the airport, and then you will be transferred to your hotel and have a nice rest.
Today you will first go to see the famous Tian’anmen Square. It is located in the center of Beijing. It starts from Tian’anmen in the north, Zhengyangmen in the south, the National Museum of China in the east, and the Great Hall of the people in the west. It is 880 meters long from north to south, 500 meters wide from east to west, covering an area of 440,000 square meters. It can hold a grand gathering of 1 million people and is the largest city square in the world. From there you will enter the “Imperial Palace" known as the Forbidden City (closed on each Monday) where 24 emperors ruled China for about 600 years. It is located in the center of the central axis of Beijing, with the total coverage of 720,000 square meters. There are more than 70 palaces, more than 9,000 houses inside. The Forbidden City of Beijing is one of the largest and best preserved ancient wooden structures throughout the world. It was listed as a world cultural heritage in 1987. After lunch, you will go to the the Summer Palace where emperors spend their summer time. It was formerly known as Qingyi Garden and is located in the western suburb of Beijing, covering an area of 2.9 square kilometers, adjacent to Yuanmingyuan Park. It is a large-scale landscape garden built on the basis of Kunming Lake and Wanshou Mountain, and drawing from the design techniques of gardens in Southern China. It is also the most beautiful and complete imperial garden in existence in China known as the "Royal Garden Museum”.
Today we will visit the Great Wall, which is known as the longest defensive project in the world. The part we will go to is called Mutianyu Great Wall, it is located in Huairou District, 73 kilometers away from the urban area of Beijing. It has a long history and splendid culture, and enjoys the reputation of "the most unique part among the different sections of Great Wall". The mountains are stacked in the scenic area, and the vegetation coverage rate is over 90%. The Mutianyu Great Wall is 5400 meters long, making it the longest Great Wall in China. The wall is seven or eight meters high and the top of the wall is four or five meters wide. There are buttresses on both sides of the wall, which can resist enemies on both sides, and horse pits are excavated on the outside to improve the defense function. You will go up to the Great Wall by cable chair, climb up and enjoy the view, then come down by toboggan. (For guests with the age above 60, he or she will take the round trip cable chair. Round trip cable car option is also available.) In the afternoon, we will take you to the Jiankou Village. You will spend the night in the Jiankou Village.
This morning you will go up to the Jiankou Great Wall. It is the most precipitous and magnificent section of the Great Wall in Beijing. It is seriously weathered without any artificial decoration. It fully shows the Great Wall's uniqueness, and you can appreciate the original and ancient landscape of the Great Wall. The middle part of the Great Wall is the most beautiful and precipitous part of the Great Wall. From north to south, there are many beautiful scenic spots, such as the Soaring Eagle, the Beijing Knot, the Staircase to the Sky, the General Guarding the Pass and so on. Among them, the Soaring Eagle is the most famous place. The mountain here looks like an eagle soaring up to the sky. The terrain is very steep, and climbing is particularly difficult because it rises almost vertically. Beijing knot is the north end of this section, there is a pine tree on the watch tower, which looks a lot like the Guest Greeting Pine in Mountain Huang. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Gubeikou Village. Overnight in Gubeikou Village.
Today you will go to the Gubeikou. It is the most complete great wall system in the history of the Great Walls of China. It is composed of the Great Wall of the Northern Qi Dynasty and the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty, including Wohushan, Panlongshan, Jinshanling and Simatai sections of Great Walls. It is the "gorge" of the Liaodong Plain and Inner Mongolia that leads to the central plains. It has always been a place for strategists to fight for. Especially in the Five Dynasties of Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing, the battle for Gubeikou never stopped. We will first visit the starting point of Gubeikou, which is Wohushan Great Wall. Then we will drive to Jinshanling part and overnight at a guest house there.
Today you will continue walking along the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall and we will now head in the other direction. The maintenance of the wall began to improve and it became easier to walk along the way. Jinshanling Great Wall starts from the renowned pass in history-Gubeikou Pass in the west, and ends at the Wangjing Tower in the east, with a total length of 10.5 km. There are 5 passes, 67 watch towers and 3 beacons along the way. It is famous for its broad vision, dense watch towers, unique landscape, exquisite architectural style, sound military defense system and good preservation. Overnight in Jinshanling.
Today, you will be transferred to the Huangyaguan Great Wall, which was an important gate to the Great Wall of Jizhen in the Ming Dynasty. Most of the rocks on the east side of the cliff are yellow-brown in color, and during the sunset, the rocks are golden and glorious. This is how this part of the Great Wall got its name.
In the morning, you will return to Beijing to take the estimated flight: MU5120 16:55/19:10 to Shanghai. Our guide in Shanghai will wait for you at the airport, and take you to your hotel. The rest of the day will be yours.
After breakfast, we will visit Yu Garden (closed on each Monday). It is a classical garden that a government officer specially built for his parents as a place to enjoy their tranquil and happy retired time. It was built in 1559, fully reflecting the architectural and design style of Chinese classical gardens. Yu Garden was opened to public in 1961, and was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit by the State Council in 1982. Nowadays, it has become a popular tourist attraction for domestic and foreign tourists to Shanghai. And you will have the most local experience by strolling around the nearby Shanghai Old Street. After lunch we will see the Shanghai Tower. It has the world's highest indoor observation deck. From this height, one can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the Huangpu River, the Bund on the west, and several other skyscrapers like the Jinmao Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center on the east bank. Later you will take a walk at The Bund, it is a famous waterfront area and known as the symbol of Shanghai. The total length of the bund is 1.5 km, starting from Yan 'an East Road in the south to Waibaidu bridge on the Suzhou River in the north, Huangpu river in the east and the old Shanghai financial and foreign trade institutions in the west. And Nanjing Road, famously named one of the World's Seven Great Roads in the 1930s. The road starts from east of the Bund and stretches towards Hongqiao, with Renmin Square in the middle. Then back to your hotel.
Today, we will take you to the airport according to your flight and fly back to your sweet home.
