Day 1 Beijing
Juyonguan Great Wall

This morning, our tour guide will pick you up at the hotel in downtown Beijing where you can have a nice breakfast first. Then, we will drive northwest to Juyonguan Great Wall for about one hour and twenty minutes (56KM).

Juyongguan Great Wall has been a pass of vital importance in the north of Beijing since ancient times. It is located between narrow valleys with overlapping mountains on both sides. At the bottom of the valleys is Guan Cheng (a defensive fort over border post). The walls of Guan Cheng extend all the way to the rivers between the valleys and converges into a closed circle. Winding on the ridges in the east and west, Juyongguan Great Wall is very precipitous. Many sections here are at a degree of 70 and almost vertical, which is quite challenging for hiking. In addition, its Juyongguan Pass also serves as an important gateway to Beijing from the north. This pass can be said to be the center of the defense system of the whole Great Wall. There are also many historical stories about Juyongguan Great Wall. It was said that as early as in the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 AD), Juyongguan Great Wall had formed an inner city with a considerable scale. Later, in the early autumn of 1213, Genghis Khan, one of the great leaders of the nomadic minorities in the north, led 100,000 troops to the south. Genghis Khan and his troops soon approached the Juyongguan Pass. Flanked by high mountains, this pass was built with solid stones, with archers guarding the front gate. So, it was very hard to break through the Juyongguan Pass. Genghis Khan launched repeated strong attacks without success. For several days, Genghis Khan was in a dilemma because he could not break this seemingly impregnable fortress in front of him. Just when the attack was about to fail, Genghis Khan’s scouts found a hidden path leading to the inner city at the back of the Juyongguan Pass. In the evening, Genghis Khan ordered his troops to feint at the Juyongguan Pass in turn, while he led a light cavalry into the city. Finally, at down, Genghis Khan seized the city and broke the Juyongguan Pass. The above is part of the stories of the Juyongguan Great Wall. Our Juyongguan Great Wall Tour will tell you more about this ancient military project and top tourist destination in China.

After that, you will be transferred to the hotel in downtown Beijing.
