Located in Jiashan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, Xitang Ancient Town stands at the junction of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. Xitang Ancient Town is 90 kilometers away from Shanghai in the east, 110 kilometers away from Hangzhou in the west, and 85 kilometers away from Suzhou in the north. Xitang is the first batch of historical and cultural towns in China, a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, and has even won the World Heritage Protection Outstanding Achievement Award. Well-known for its long history and being one of the birthplaces of ancient Wuyue culture, Xitang Ancient Town was newly promoted to a national 5A tourist attraction on February 25, 2017.
In the Tang Dynasty, people built houses along the river and lived by the river.
In the Yuan Dynasty, this place gradually developed into a prosperous large market town, and various markets here such as ceramics markets, rice markets, and food markets were flourishing.
In the Ming dynasties, this town was firstly named as Xietang; During the time of Republic of China, it was renamed as Xitang; In 1945, the Xitang AnciTown People's Government was established; In 2017, Xitang Ancient Town was rated as one of the ten most popular ancient towns in 2017.
Located on West Street, the Button Museum has six exhibition halls: Ancient Buttons Exhibition Hall, Modern Buttons Exhibition Hall, Contemporary Buttons Exhibition Hall, Shell Buttons Production Process Exhibition Hall, Buttons Application Hall, and Chinese Knots Exhibition Hall. In these halls, there are masters to show the shell buttons’ production process.
The rain corridors in Xitang are mostly concentrated in commercial areas such as Beizha Street, Nanzha Street and Chaonandai. With a length of 2000 meters, Misty Rain Corridor is the most unique symbol of Xitang architecture.

If you go to Xitang Ancient Town from Hangzhou Passenger Transport Central Station, you should go to Jiashan first, then take bus No. K215 or K216, and get off at Xitang Bus Station and walk around 5 minutes to reach the scenic area. It takes about 2 hours (45 yuan).
