The former residence of Jia Yi, an outstanding statesman and writer in the Western Han Dynasty, is located in Taiping Street. Because the later generations admired him, they preserved his old house and its cultural relics. A wooden statue carved inside the house has survived to this day. Jia Yi's former residence is known as the source of Huxiang culture. It has a history of many years and is the oldest historical site in Changsha. Jia Yi was an official of Changsha at that time when he was only 27 years old. At that time, the Hunan Province was the territory of the state of Changsha, and Jia Yi was the chief executive sent by the central government to Changsha. The former residence of Jia Yi has been the pattern of the integration of ancestral halls since the first year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty. Over many years, people have repaired and rebuilt Jia Yi's former residence more than 100 times.
