Day 1 Shanghai Arrival
Arrival in Shanghai. Drive you to the hotel

Welcome to Shanghai! Our guide is waiting for you at the airport arrival hall. After meeting you, we will drive you to the hotel.

Shanghai, Hu for short, is located at the estuary of the Yangtze River in China. It covers an area of 5,800 square kilometers and has a population of 24.87 million. It is one of the largest cities in China and one of the largest metropolises in the world. Shanghai enjoys a humid subtropical climate. It is usually the hottest in July, with the highest temperature reaching 35℃ to 38℃. It rains a lot from mid-June to early July every year. In ancient times, Shanghai was just a seaside fishing village. While it is now one of the four municipalities directly governed under the Central Government in China. In the following days, you will have an excellent opportunity to appreciate a traditional garden and temple, as well as modern buildings in Shanghai.

Day 2 Shanghai
Yu Garden, Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai Tower, Nanjing Road, The Bund

This morning, we will visit the Yu Garden (closed each Monday), a well-known garden with the style of architecture in southern China. It has a history of more than 450 years. It was first built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) by Pan Yunduan, who was then a court official in Sichuan province. To make elaborate preparations for his father’s retirement, he began to build this garden on his in 1559. He finally completed the Yu Garden after more than 20 years of painstaking management. He also named the garden Yu, which means to pleasant and happy. At the moment, the Yu Garden covers an area of 2 hectares. There are pavilions, rockery, and green trees, fully reflecting the artistic style of the architecture of private gardens in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. As a name card of Shanghai's traditional culture, the delicate garden has been visited by many leaders and celebrities from home and abroad, such as Queen Elizabeth II and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

After visiting the Yu Garden, we will go to the Jade Buddha Temple. It imitated the temples in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). In the Jade Buddha Temple are three main palaces serving Buddhas, monks, and tourists. Tourists can visit rooms storing cultural relics, in which you can see bronze Buddha statues and other ancient artifacts. What’s more, Buddhists come one after another on the first and 15th day of every lunar month, or on traditional Buddhist festivals. Those are the good days to worship the Buddhas. It is said that if you worship the Buddha devoutly, you will get inner peace. The Jade Buddha Temple is really one of the quiet places in such a modern city Shanghai. Therefore, it’s worthwhile to give it a shot.

Lunch will be in the local restaurant, and then you will visit the Shanghai Tower. It covers a total area of 578,000 square meters and consists of 127 floors above ground and 5 floors underground. It is 632 meters high and is shaped like a spiraling dragon. The number of this kind of building can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Thus, the Shanghai Tower always leaves a deep impression on visitors. The sightseeing hall is on its 118th floor. Standing there, you will get a panoramic view of Shanghai City. In addition to the entertainment function, there are also restaurants, museums, bookstores, and hotels, making Shanghai Tower a comprehensive skyscraper.

Then we will walk around Nanjing Road, the “First Commercial Street in China”. It is 5.5 kilometers long, with more than 600 shops on both sides. You can not only see different styles of buildings but also buy various delicious foods here. If you want to taste novel food, you could go to Lao Da Fang. Its smoked fish and pork moon cakes are very famous. The sugar sauce on the outside of the crispy smoked fish tastes both salty and sweet. As for pork moon cakes, they are filled with meat paste, which is a rare flavor. If you love to drink wine, you could give wine-preserved winkles and wine-preserved crabs a try in Shao Wang Sheng. If you are interested in traditional Chinese medicine, you can go to Cai Tong De. The pharmacy boasts a special medical wine made from tiger bones and pawpaws, as well as a plaster that can nourish the liver and kidney. If you plan to buy something for your families and friends, you must not miss Nanjing Road.

Our last attraction is the Bund, an iconic landmark of Shanghai. It is located on the west bank of Huangpu River, facing the Oriental Pearl Tower. While walking around the Bund, you may be impressed by the 52 buildings with different countries’ architectural styles. Thanks to the harmonious beauty of the various buildings, the Bund is acclaimed as “An Exhibition of International Buildings”. You can see buildings of Baroque style, French style, Gothic style, and British style. Walking on the Bund, you will feel the history and development of Shanghai in person. Don’t forget to post your photos with the Bund on your FB. I am sure you will get a lot of “like”.

Tianzifang Market. Take a flight to Haikou

This morning, we will go to the Tianzifang Market. Its name comes from an ancient artist who is called Tian Zifang. It’s apparent that the elegant name adds an artistic atmosphere to the old alley. The factories, abandoned warehouses, and small houses of ordinary people were all transformed into cafes, galleries, photo exhibitions, and creative shops. There are also delicious foods and drinks, such as a drink made of butterfly pea. While rotating the glass, you may find the color changes from blue to purple which is extremely beautiful. Besides, you can go to Dagezi Chips to give long fries a try. It’s very crispy and the length of these fries is several times that of ordinary fries. If it’s summer, you could try the ice cake with cream and walnut in Lao Da Chang. If you are a foodie and like art, you must not miss the Tianzifang Market.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport and head to Haikou by taking the estimated flight HO1275 15:00/18:05. Your tour guide will wait for you at the arrival lobby and then transfer you to the hotel.

Haikou is the capital of Hainan Province and an international transportation hub. It has a population of 2.87 million. It enjoys a tropical monsoon climate. The highest average temperature is around 28℃ and the lowest average temperature is 18℃. That means it’s a very warm and comfortable city to live in. Haikou is also known as “Coconut City”, as coconuts abound here. It is a very slow and romantic city. Why is that? First, it has a pleasant environment and abundant products. Here people enjoy a self-sufficient life. Second, there are few people but large lands. So it is not a crowded place. Finally, as Hainan acts as a big agricultural province, it has not formed the fast pace of industrial society. Have you already been attracted by the cozy and beautiful city? If your answer is “yes”, join us at once. Let’s go!

Day 6 Sanya
Luhuitou Scenic Area, Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone

This morning, we will visit the Luhuitou Scenic Area, a theme scenic spot with the culture and love story of the Li ethnic minority. The scenic area lies on Luhuitou Hill. From the top of the 275 meters high Luhuitou Hill, you can have panoramic views of the entire Sanya City. There is a romantic story about the name of the hill. In ancient times, a young hunter of the Li ethnic minority chased a deer to the shore of the South China Sea. When the deer had no way to go, it looked back with tears in its eyes. Seeing such a pitiful look, the hunter felt pity for the deer so he put down his bow and arrow and decided not to kill the deer. It turned out that this is a divine deer dispatched by God to enlighten the man and test whether he had a kind heart. Seeing the young man spare its life, the deer then changed into a beautiful girl. At last, the kind man spent the rest of his life with the pretty girl. Thus, the hill is named Luhuitou, as “Lu” means “deer” and “Huitou” means “look back” in Chinese.

Your guide will take you to the nearby restaurant for lunch. After lunch, you will visit the Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone. You will have an excellent opportunity to enjoy tropical landscapes and taste kinds of fruits here. It is an ideal place to avoid the bustling world, as there is herbal SPA, tropical rain forests, as well as tranquil valleys, waterfalls, and springs. If you visit the Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone in summer, you will feel pleasantly cool. Walking in the rainforest, you can breathe fresh air and enjoy a good time. And it’s worth mentioning the interesting name. The name “Yanoda” belongs to the Hainan dialect and it means “one, two, and three”. It also has a meaning of welcome and hello. Therefore, you will always be greeted with “Yanoda” while walking around the rainforest. The tourism zone offers diverse entertainment projects such as zip lines, waterfall playing, CS with real people, and swinging under a cliff, which can need most of the tourists’ needs. Finally, please remember to say “Yanoda” to greet others at the attraction.

Tian’anmen Square, Forbidden City. Eat Peking Roast Duck. Summer Palace

This morning, you will begin to explore Beijing by walking around Tian’anmen Square. Tian’anmen Square is located in the center of Beijing. It covers an area of 440,000 square meters and can accommodate 1 million people for grand gatherings. It is shaped like the letter “T”. It was the imperial square in the past and thus became a forbidden area for ordinary people. After the peaceful liberation of Beijing, Tian’anmen Square became a public square. But at that time, it was very dilapidated and couldn’t meet the needs of grand gatherings. Therefore, it got rebuilding. It took over a month to renovate and expand 54,000 square meters. Nowadays, here stand the Tian’anmen Gate Tower, the Great Hall of the People, the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, and the National Museum. In the center of the square, there is the Monument to the People’s Heroes. Seeing these buildings will remind people of the history of China.

Walking through Tian’anmen Square, we will visit the Forbidden City (closed each Monday), the imperial palace for 24 emperors during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1636-1912) Dynasties. It covers a total area of 720,000 square meters, which is equivalent to the area of one and the half Vatican. In the Forbidden City, you will see kinds of animal statues. Some are big, such as stone lions, stone elephants, and copper cranes. But some are small, like the mythical creatures on the palaces’ eaves. All of these animals have special symbols. The lion is the symbol of dignity; the elephant is the symbol of luck and fortune and the crane is the symbol of long life. So, when you walk into the Forbidden City, don’t miss these meaningful statues. If you are curious about the meaning of other animal statues, your guide is willing to explain it to you. Besides the magnificent buildings and delicate statues, there are many legends about the Forbidden City and here I will tell you one of them. It is said that there is a mysterious well in the Forbidden City. While looking down in the day, you see nothing but stones and weeds. However, as long as there is a moon in the sky, you could see water but the reflection is a maid’s face instead of yours. Isn’t it amazing? You can ask your guide and uncover the mystery.

Your guide will take you to eat Peking Roast Duck for lunch. It is the famous food in Beijing and can only be enjoyed by our distinguished tourists of Beijing Luxury tour. That means we don’t arrange Peking Roast Duck for ordinary tourists. Although you can eat it directly, it’s necessary to mention a proper way, a mostly used way by Beijingers, to eat the delicious food. Holding a pancake in your left hand, you first pick up two or three pieces of meat cut into slices and dip them into a thick sweet sauce. Then place them in the center of the pancake and add some sliced scallion or cucumber. At last, fold the pancake and chew it slowly and thoroughly. You will definitely be attracted by its crispy skin and tender meat!

After lunch, we will go to the Summer Palace, the most well-preserved imperial garden. It covers a total area of 290 hectares and is one of the four most famous gardens in China. It was built by Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty. He regarded himself as Emperor of Heaven so he ordered to construct a magnificent garden like one in heaven. He also demanded to build a lake, Kunming Lake, like the Milky Way on heaven. Besides, there is a bronze bull, referring to a cowherd, and a picture about weaving the cloth, referring to a fairy on the two sides of the lake. The origin of these two spots is from the Chinese ancient story of the Cowherd and the Weaving Girl. Weaving Girl is a fairy but fell in love with the mortal cowherd. Her mom, the Queen Mother on the heaven, didn’t allow them to get married. So, she obstructed them by the Milky Way. In the Summer Palace, these two scenic spots face each other across Kunming Lake, representing the couple who can hardly be together because of the broad obstacle. The couple’s love story moves a lot of people. What’s your feeling?

Day 9 Beijing
Hutong, Juyongguan Pass Great Wall

This morning, we will go to the Hutong, one of the features in Beijing. Hutong is the name given to a narrow lane, alley, or small street between rows of single-story Siheyuan (traditional dwellings of local Beijingers in the past). It is an inevitable destination for tourists in Beijing. If you take the air and look down, you will find various alleyways are distributing everywhere in the city like a maze. Therefore, we will arrange an old transportation tool for you. Taking a rickshaw is the most traditional and relaxing way to know about the old Beijing and Hutong culture. It’s worth mentioning that this way of visiting Hutong is only for tourists of Beijing Luxury tour, while ordinary visitors can only visit the attraction on foot. What’s more, we will take you to visit a local family in Hutong, making you deeply feel the real life of people in Beijing. You can chat with the owner, listen to stories about the Hutong and even taste the local dishes. If you are interested in Hutong, let’s explore it together.

After lunch, we will drive northward for about an hour to the Juyongguan Pass Great Wall, 60 kilometers away from the center of Beijing. It boasts a critical military strategic position. It is one of the three great mountain passes of the Great Wall (the other two are Jiayuguan Pass and Shanhaiguan Pass). It is the best section of the Great Wall that is suitable for climbing on foot. Touching the historical Great Wall bricks and see the watchtowers on the Great Wall in a close distance. You will feel the majesty of the Great Wall in person.
