Introduction of Xiqiao Mountain

Xiqiao Mountain is located in the southwest part of Nanhai District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. Known as one of the four famous mountains in Guangdong, Xiqiao Mountain boasts an altitude of 346 meters, covering an area of 14 square kilometers.
 

As an ancient volcano with a history of over million years, Xiqiao Mountain is rich in scenic resources, including 72 peaks, 36 caves, 232 clear springs, and 28 waterfalls. Besides, there is a wide variety of animal and plant resources. With abundant resources and pleasant scenery, Xiqiao Mountain is rated as the National Forest Park of China and the National Scenic Area.
 

Visitors can also enjoy lion dances at Wong Fei Hung Lion Dance Martial Arts Museum.

 

History of Xiqiao Mountain

In 1951, the Xiqiao Mountain Tianhu project was completed.

In 1957, Nanhai County Government established the Xiqiao Mountain Management Committee to carry out afforestation on the mountain.

In 1958, Xiqiao Agroforestry Demonstration Farm (later renamed Xiqiao Mountain Farm) and Xiqiao Mountain Travel Service Agency were established.  

After the reform and opening-up in 1979, the Xiqiao Mountain Tourism District Office of Nanhai County was set up.

In 1994, the Xiqiao Mountain Tourist Resort was approved and established by Guangdong Province.

On January 11, 2001, Xiqiao Mountain Scenic Area was rated as the first batch of national AAAA-level scenic areas by the National Tourism Administration.

Baiyun Cave

Located in the northwest of Xiqiao Mountain, Baiyun Cave covers an area of 1.2 square kilometers. Baiyun Cave was built during the reign(1522-1566) of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty. It is now known as Qiao Park.
 

As one of the 36 caves of Xiqiao Mountain, Baiyun Cave is surrounded by cliffs. The pavilions and terraces are hidden among the green pines and verdant cypresses. The back hill of Baiyun Cave is blessed with Sky Lake, Yunlu Village, Dangui Garden, and other scenic spots.
 

Literati and writers left Baiyun Cave with a wealth of cultural relics, such as Sanhu Academy, Kuiguang Tower, Baiyun Temple, and so on. These cultural relics have attracted numerous tourists each year.

Built in 1404, with a history of more than 600 years, the Baofeng Temple is regarded as a good place for traveling and praying, and one of the four famous temples in Southern Guangdong. Covered an area of 21,600 square meters, it is 180 meters long from north to south and 120 meters wide from east to west.
 

Looking at the distance, visitors can have a view of the mountain gate, the Great Buddha’s Hall, and the Dharma Hall standing on the central axis of the temple. The Bell Tower, Drum Tower, and Guanyin Hall are located on both sides of the temple.
 

The buildings are designed according to the style of the Ming Dynasty, making the temple elegant and simple.

 

Warm Tips

As there are three entrances (the north gate, the south gate, and the west gate) to Xiqiao Mountain, visitors can choose any of them.

There are some tips that visitors should pay attention to.

At the north gate, visitors can choose to take sightseeing buses or climb the mountain on foot.

The west gate is the main entrance of Baiyun Cave. Visitors can choose to take the cable car or climb the mountain on foot.

The south gate used to be an entrance to the mountain by car. But motor vehicles are restricted. Thus, visitors can park vehicles in the parking lot, and choose to take sightseeing buses. (Parking is free.)

 

How to Get to Xiqiao Mountain

By Bus

Take Bus Qiao 01, Qiao 02, Qiao 03, Qiao 05, Qiao 06, Qiao 09, Qiao 10, Qiao 12, or Qiao 13, and get off at Dengshan Avenue Station. Then you need a 11-minute walking to the Xiqiao Mountain in the south.

Take Bus Qiao 01, Qiao 03, Qiao 16, or Qiao 17, and get off at Qiao Park Station. Then walk toward northeast about 860 meters along the Qiaoyuanlu(Qiao Park Road), turn left, walk 20 meters to the destination.
 

By Taxi

Chinese: 请带我去西樵山。English: Please take me to Xiqiao Mountain.

If you go to Xiqiao Mountain from the center of Nanhai District (Aloft Hotel), it takes about 35 minutes (about 100 yuan).

If you go to Xiqiao Mountain from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, it takes about 70 minutes (about 200 yuan).

If you go to Xiqiao Mountain from Foshan Railway Station, it takes about 45 minutes (about 100 yuan).
