Shiqiao Miao Village is known for its ancient paper-making, which is a unique traditional craft with a 1500-year history. The traditional craft has been kept since the middle of the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907). Besides, there are more than 60 households engaged in the ancient paper-making in the village. They mainly produce white papers and colored bark papers, making a hit across the country, even the world. Some of their colored paper is also sold to Australia, Southeast Asia, and other regions. It is used to make greeting cards and handbags or for decorations.

The village boasts clear water resources, a pleasant climate, and rich natural and human resources, providing excellent conditions for making paper.

A number of ethnic minorities are living in the village, including Miao, Dong, Shui, Dongxiang, and Yao. Hence the village is a better place for people to experience the different cultures of food, clothing, and customs of the minority groups.

Shiqiao white paper, with a long history, is the result of a paper-making technology that the ancestors of the Miao nationality in Shiqiao Maio Village borrowed from the Han nationality.

Before the Revolution of 1911, the paper industry of Shiqiao Miao Village was in individual production due to the weak economy and less demand for paper.

After the Revolution of 1911, as a growing number of schools emerged, the demand for paper was on the rise. More and more villagers were engaged in making paper, developing to more than 30.

In 1934, Shiqiao white paper won the second place in a paper competition held in Guiyang, Guizhou.

After the liberation of Danzhai, Shiqiao white paper reached a new developmental stage.

In March 1955, Tongxin Paper Factory was established.

In January 1958, it changed to a local state-owned Shiqiao Paper Factory in Danzhai County.

In June 1978, it was renamed the Traditional Chinese Painting Paper Factory in Danzhai County.

In 1985, the Shiqiao White Paper Mill was designated as the provincial level key cultural relic preservation.
