Located at the junction of Zhang Guangcai ridge and Laoye ridge in Changbai Mountains, China Snow Town scenic spot covers an area of 179.16 square kilometers and is 1100 meters above sea level. The frequent confluence of the cold air from Lake Baikal and the warm and humid air from the Sea of Japan and the influence of the microclimate of high mountains and dense forests create the peculiar microclimate. It does not have three sunny days in summer and snow covers the forests in the whole winter.
From October to April of the next year, snow falls for seven months, and the thickness of snow can reach about 2 meters. The snow here has various shapes and forms. It is a unique and unrepeatable tourist attraction in the world. In winter, here can be called a world of a fairy tale. It’s a good place for travelers and photographers to watch the snow in winter.
The name of China Snow Town is not formal, and Shuangfeng Forest Farm is its scientific name. China Snow Town is located in Changting Town, Hailin City, Heilongjiang Province, and a forest farm subordinate to Dahailin Forestry Bureau. The snow here is of good quality and high viscosity. In winter, you can see all kinds of naturally formed snow mounds, including the famous ‘snow mushroom’.
The civilian areas here with more than 100 households are like a connected “snow house” with layers of snow. Under the action of wind, the snow with the shape of the house can reach 1 meter thick, which looks like a galloping horse, crouching rabbit, tortoise, giant mushroom, and so on. All kinds of snow, like white clouds falling from the sky. From early winter to early spring, the snow in China Snow Town is beautiful all the time. Therefore, the place is named “China Snow Town”.
In the China Snow Town, you can ski, play in the snow circle, or get up early in the morning to watch the sunrise by snowmobiles. You can also hike over the Yangcao Mountain to feel the charm of the forest and snowfield. China Snow Town is a small village. Xueyun Street is a lively place in the village. On both sides of this nearly 500-meter-long street, there are various shops and hotels. At night, the red lanterns hanging in front of the shops are very festive. You can buy a frozen pear or persimmon on Xueyun street, or go to a bar decorated with old locomotives to experience a different atmosphere.
You can see all kinds of beautiful “snow mushrooms” in the “Dream Home” on Xueyun street, which can be regarded as a well-known scenic spot in China Snow Town, and the hill behind the “Dream Home” is a good place for photography. Many people come to China Snow Town to do two things. One is to go skiing, play snow circles, and have snowball fights in the ski resort near the village. It’s cheaper to hire a coach here than in Yabuli Ski Resort.
Snow Town National Forest Park covers a large area, including more than 20 scenic spots in addition to its core scenic spot--China Snow Town. Yangcao Mountain, Datudingzi Mountain, Erlongshan Film and Television City well known to tourists, as well as great snow valley and primeval forest tourist areas in Snow Town developed later are all within the scope of Snow Town National Forest Park.
Snow Valley will be mentioned when talking about Snow Town. There is a Yangcao Mountain between Snow Valley and Snow Town. Many outdoor enthusiasts will experience crossing the Yangcao Mountain. It’s a so-called “straight crossing” from Snow Valley to Snow Town through Yangcao Mountain, and it’s “reverse crossing” from Snow Town to Snow Valley. In 2016, China Snow Town Scenic Area launched ten free scenic spots to improve the satisfaction of tourists to the snow country, namely, the photography viewing area of Snow Scenery in China Snow Town, the Bangchui Mountain Cottage, the sightseeing plank road, the scenic viewing platform with unlimited scenery, the China Snow Town Culture Exhibition Hall, the "Where Are We Going Dad" photography base, the snow sculpture viewing area, the northeast folk woodcut photography viewing area, the performance of northeast yang ko dance and the open-air stage of China Snow Town to make them feel that the trip is worthwhile.
Located in the northwest corner of China Snow Town, Yangcao Mountain is 1350 meters above sea level. It is named after the sparse trees on the top of the mountain and the dense grass. It is the highest mountain in China Snow Town, about 4.5 kilometers away from Xianjin Valley of Snow Town, and it is said to be one of the most beautiful scenic spots in Snow Town.
The landscape of Yangcao Mountain is very peculiar, with rime and snow hanging all over the hills. It is also the first choice for many teams of donkey friends to come. Every year, tens of thousands of people walk through the Snow Town from China Snow Valley of Shanhetun Forestry Bureau. It is also a favorite place for many photography lovers. Yaxue Highway starts from Yabuli Forestry Bureau in the South and ends at China Snow Town under the jurisdiction of Dahailin Forestry Bureau in the north, with a total length of 83 km, passing through Yabuli Forestry Bureau, Qingyunshan, Erlang River, Shanhetun Forestry Bureau, Shuangfeng Forest Farm and Snow Town scenic spot.
The Yaxue Highway is on high mountains with dense forests, abundant water and trees around, forming a rare rime and snow hanging scene, like silver whiskers, white dragons and magic pens. The wonder of rime is dazzling, just like the fairy forest outside the world.

Erlanghe Village Scenery Area was established on November 11, 2010, under the jurisdiction of the Dahailin Forestry Bureau. It is 72 km away from the bureau, 43 km away from China Snow Town, and 40 kilometers away from Yabuli, a famous tourist town. The altitude here is 723 meters, and the highest altitude of the construction area is 1600 meters. The climate here is similar to that of China Snow Town. From the middle of October to the end of April of the next year, the period of snowing lasts for seven months, and the thickness of snow can reach about 2 meters. The amount, quality, and viscosity of snow are extremely special.
Its landscape is comparable to the snow scenery of China Snow Town scenic spot, and it is another eye-catching pearl embedded in the Yaxue tourist route. The period of snowing is seven months in Snow Town every year. Thus, the day from December to March of the next year is the best time to visit the snow in Snow Town. At this time, there is a lot of thick snow and quite a few tourists.

7. In winter, the snow in some places of Snow Town is more than 2 meters thick, especially in the mountains where there are many deep pits. Therefore, you must walk along the road that has been walked, not in the wild.
8. Snow Town has a low season and peak season. Hotels and Guesthouse in the village (around Xueyun Street) only do business in winter. Thus, accommodation is very tight, and the price is very expensive. It is necessary to book in advance and try to avoid booking during peak periods, such as Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Chinese Spring Festival.
