The Main Entrance

More than 1,300 years ago, to the tinkling of the camel bell, a caravan of silk-laden camels on a mission to spread eastern civilization set out west from the bustling city of Chang'an, making its first stop in the northwestern city of Bin County, Shaanxi. Therefore, Bin County is known as the "first station in and out of Central Shaanxi."

Bin County Cave Temple was built in the second year of the Zhenguan Period (627-649) of the Tang Dynasty, more than 1,300 years ago. Formerly known as "Yingfu Temple", it was built by Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty in memory of the soldiers who died in the battle. Since Bin Country Cave Temple was built, it has been improved through the ages.

In 2014, the Temple was successfully selected into the World Heritage List, filling the gap in the world cultural heritage of Xianyang.

Highlights to See at Bin County Cave Temple

The Great Buddha Grotto

The Great Buddha,Bin County Cave Temple
The Great Buddha

"The Great Buddha Grotto" is in the center of the temple and the largest cave in the temple. The cave is semicircular, with a diameter of about 34 meters and a height of 31 meters. The main Buddha in the cave is Amitabha, the leader of the western bliss world, which has been called "the first wonder in Central Shaanxi" since ancient times.

The Great Buddha sits on the lotus platform with his right hand on his knee and his left hand in Abhaya mudra. His body posture is naturally plump, and his eyes, which are slightly open under the long and thin arch eyebrows, seem to look down on the vast world and people with deep affection. Bodhisattva and Mahasthamaprapta, who stand on both sides, are both 15.6 meters tall, with a crown on their heads and gorgeous tassels. They are also extraordinary artistic sculptures.

Thousand-Buddha Cave

Thousand-Buddha Cave

Thousand-Buddha Cave is a large cave with 696 statues. A statue niche of one Buddha and two Bodhisattvas with the same height as the real person is also preserved in Thousand-Buddha Cave. It is the most typical statue art of Chang'an style in the early Tang Dynasty.

In particular, some Bodhisattva statues clearly show the graceful body contour of women, and the crotch twisted to one side perfectly depicts the charm and grace of Bodhisattva.
