It is a perfect place to experience Lingnan customs and folk culture.

The distinctive streets, ancestral halls, dwellings, and shops in Lingnan Impression Park fully reveal the essence of Lingnan’s traditional culture. In addition to the old-fashioned buildings, there are many authentic Lingnan specialties in the park, such as Sirloin Rice Noodles, Bamboo-pressed Noodles, Sliced Fish Congee, Milk Custard with Egg White, and Ginger Milk Pudding. The main restaurants are distributed on both sides of Lianxi Street.

Lingnan Impression Park gathers a large number of intangible cultural heritages in Guangdong, such as Guang embroidery (a general name for embroidery products of the regions of Guangzhou, Shantou, Zhongshan, Panyu, and Shunde in Guangdong Province), wood carving, stone carving, brick carving, Guangdong Cantonese Opera, paper-cuts and ceramics. Tourists will also learn from craftsmen how to make these manual productions which boast high artistic value.

Lingnan Impression Park retains 16 historical buildings, such as Huo’s Grand Ancestral Hall, and cultural relics in Lianxi Village, and 38 Lingnan style dwellings combining tradition and modernity are newly built.

Architectural Features of Lingnan Impression Park

Distinctive Buildings

Lianxi Village is surrounded by mountains and rivers, so villagers use oyster shells to build houses by the waterside. The local-style dwelling houses are designed in high height and with a narrow door and an arched roof.

Simple and durable oyster shells are the common building materials for residents in Lianxi Village. Before the emergence of reinforced concrete, villagers used oyster shells to build houses. Mixed with mud and lime, oyster shells are attached to the outer wall obliquely. The walls built in this way not only have aesthetic values but also have the practical functions of sound insulation and warm-keeping, which has become a major feature of Lingnan architecture.

Oyster shell wall is the product of the ancients adapting to nature. Now only a few ancient dwellings and ancestral halls still preserve such architectural forms after hundreds of years.

Lingnan costume culture is a microcosm of the historical changes of Lingnan culture. Due to the influx of immigrants in ancient times and modern days, Guangdong costumes have absorbed various cultural styles of other regions. Furthermore, as the origin of the Maritime Silk Road and the only trading port at that time, Guangdong had opportunities to absorb different clothing elements in ancient times, such as French lace and Japanese jacquard satin, which has left far-reaching influences on China’s costumes and even the world’s fashion. For example, the Chinese tunic suit has been valued and used by high-end and luxury brands at home and abroad.
