Lingyin Temple, also known as Yunlin temple, is located in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The founder of Lingyin Temple is Huili, a West Indian monk. There are all kinds of buddha statues and sculptures in the temple and you can appreciate the exquisite ancient craftsmanship. If you want to purify your body and mind, it will be a treasure land. Moreover, Lingyin Temple is also very famous among Buddhist temples in China.

In 845, the Emperor Wu Zong of Tang Dynasty excluded, abolished and banned the Buddhism. Lingyin Temple was hard to escape from the misfortune, and it was destroyed and the monks scattered.
 

During the reign of Qing Dynasty, the Emperor Qianlong drove to Lingyin Temple six times in 1751, 1757, 1762, 1780, and 1784.
 

The main building that can be seen today is a result of the restoration that was carried out in 1974 following the ten-year Chinese Cultural Revolution.

Feilai Peak

As the head of the five mountains of Zen Buddhism, the stone sculptures in Feilai Peak are important works of grotto art in southern China, while the sculpture of the Lushena is the fine work of the Northern Song Dynasty. The most well-known statues are Tatu Maitreya and the 18 Arhats. They are the largest statues in the cliff carvings of Feilai Peak. They are treasures of China Buddhist art.
 

Tianwang Hall

The Tianwang Hall is about 24 meters long and 15 meters wide. The plaque "Yunlin Temple" is hanged on the Tianwang hall, which was inscribed by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. There is a stone scripture building in front of the Tianwang hall.

The Great Buddha’s Hall

The Great Buddha’s Hall is about 24 meters long and 33.6 meters high. There is a 24.8-meter-high lotus seated statue of Sakyamuni in the center of the Great Buddha’s Hall, which is one of the tallest seated buddha statues in China.
 

Pharmacist Hall

The Pharmacist Hall is the third largest hall of Lingyin Temple. It is about 20 meters long and 12 meters wide. The pharmacist buddha is on the lotus platform in the hall. The buddha can help all living beings get away from pain and disasters, so it is also known as the "medicine buddha of eliminating disasters and prolonging life".

 

Transportation to Lingyin Temple

By Bus

If you get on the bus from Hangzhou Railway Station, you can take bus No.7 or 52 and get off the bus at Lingyin Temple station, and walk about 839 meters to the destination. It takes about 60 minutes and costs 2 yuan.

If you start from the city center, you can take bus No.318, and get off the bus at the Affiliated Middle School of Zhejiang University, then transfer to bus No.407, and get off the bus at Lingyin Temple station, and walk about 700 meters to the destination. It takes about 60 minutes and costs 5 yuan.
