Overview of Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge

Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge

Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge, also known as Yuntiandu Glass Bridge, is an absolute must-try in Zhangjiajie. Located in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Scenic Area, it is the world’s longest and highest glass bridge. At the same time, it is also a landscape bridge that functions as a pedestrian passage, lookout area, bungee jumping platform, rope skating area, T platform, etc.

Started construction in 2014, Yuntiandu Glass Bridge was completed and brought into operation on August 20, 2016. As a large valley suspension bridge, it is famous at home and abroad for its world records: the longest glass pedestrian bridge in the world; the highest glass pedestrian bridge in the world; the world's first large-scale bridge with glass as the main stress-bearing structure; the steepest chute in the world; the bridge with the smallest girder height and span ratio in the world, etc. In addition, CNN has listed it as one of 11 spectacular bridges in the world.

With complex terrain and extreme construction’s difficulty, its success is, beyond all doubts, one of the greatest combinations of human creativity and nature. In March 2016, the bridge got its name online: Yuntiandu Glass Bridge. Hanging amidst clouds and fogs, the bridge is like a thousand feet of white silk looming in the air. Stepping on it, one would feel detached from the secular world. Thus it was named Yuantiandu Glass Bridge, according to its name giver. “Yun” means cloud in Chinese, and “tian” means heaven and “du” means passing through.
